1. Weight Class Premium

Weight Class is free to use: barcodes, food search, drinks, your goals, water, weight, body measurements, GLP-1 mode, supplements and a few AI meal scans a day. Weight Class Premium is an optional auto-renewing subscription that adds:

  • unlimited AI scans of meals, nutrition labels and descriptions (fair use: 50 a day);
  • up to 3 photos of one meal for a closer estimate;
  • a weekly check-in that suggests a calorie target from your weight trend (you decide); and
  • Plan tomorrow, a draft of your day from your own meals.

You can pay monthly or yearly. The price for your country, and any free trial you can get, are shown in the app and in the App Store or Google Play before you subscribe. Payment is charged to your Apple Account or Google Account. The subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.

2. Cancel, refunds and restoring a purchase

Cancel

  • iPhone: in Weight Class, Profile → Weight Class Premium → Manage subscription, or open Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Weight Class.
  • Android: Google Play → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Weight Class.

Premium stays on until the end of the period you paid for. Deleting the app or your account doesn't cancel it.

Refunds

Apple and Google handle payments, so refunds are requested from them: on iPhone at reportaproblem.apple.com, and on Android through Google Play's order history. We can't see or change your payment details.

Restore a purchase

New phone or reinstalled the app? Sign in to the same Weight Class account, then open Profile → Weight Class Premium → Restore purchases. Use the same Apple Account or Google Account you subscribed with.

3. Your account

  • Can't sign in? Check you're using the same email or Sign in with Apple as before. If you still can't get in, email us from the address on your account.
  • Change your details or goals: Profile → Personal details, and Profile → Daily goals.
  • Delete your account: in the app, Profile → Delete account. It permanently deletes your account and everything in it. You can also use our account deletion page.

4. Apple Health and Health Connect

Turn them on in Profile → Apple Health (iPhone) or Profile → Health Connect (Android). Weight Class can save the calories, macros, fiber, water and, on iPhone, the drinks you log. A second switch lets Weight Class read your steps, workouts and sleep to show them next to your meals; that data stays on your phone and is never sent to our server or to AI. To stop, turn the switches off, or remove Weight Class's access in the Health app or in Health Connect.

5. How the estimates work

When you scan a meal, an AI model names the foods and their portions, and the numbers come from the USDA food database wherever a food matches. They are estimates and can be wrong, so check them and correct any meal on its screen; Weight Class remembers the foods you correct. Barcodes, food search, drinks and quick add never use AI. Before the first AI scan, Weight Class asks for your permission and names the companies involved; you can turn it off in Profile → Preferences → AI meal analysis.

Weight Class is not a medical device and doesn't give medical or dosing advice. Talk to a doctor or registered dietitian before changing how you eat, especially if you take medication, are pregnant or have had an eating disorder.

6. How Weight Class works out your numbers

Your plan and goals are general estimates for healthy adults, not medical advice. These are the methods and sources behind them; the app shows the same list, with links, in Profile → Sources and citations and under “Sources” next to each number.

  • Daily calories: your resting energy use from the Mifflin-St Jeor equation (Mifflin et al., 1990), the most reliable for healthy adults in a systematic review, times an activity factor from 1.2 (mostly sitting) to 1.725 (very active), as in the FAO/WHO/UNU report on human energy requirements. About 7,700 kcal per kilogram of your weekly goal is taken away or added (Wishnofsky, 1958); real weight change slows over time (Hall et al., 2011), which is why the weekly check-in looks at your actual trend. If you allowed AI, it suggests a plan from the same answers, and Weight Class uses the formula instead whenever the AI's number is more than 35% away from it or below the limits below.
  • Limits: daily calories never go below 1,200 for women or 1,500 for men, the lower ends of the ranges in the 2013 AHA/ACC/TOS guideline for the management of overweight and obesity in adults. Weight loss is planned at 1 kg (2.2 lb) a week at most, and goals stay at or above a BMI of 18.5 (WHO).
  • Protein, fat and carbs: the formula sets protein at 2.0 g per kilogram of body weight while losing weight, 1.6 g to maintain and 1.8 g to gain; a plan from AI is kept between 1.6 and 2.2 g. The International Society of Sports Nutrition position stand on protein and exercise (Jäger et al., 2017) puts most active people at 1.4 to 2.0 g a kilogram, and more for strength-trained people losing weight. Fat is 25 to 28% of calories with the formula and 20 to 35% in a plan from AI, the range of the Dietary Reference Intakes; carbs make up the rest. Protein and carbs count 4 kcal a gram and fat 9 (FAO).
  • Fiber and water: fiber goals are the Adequate Intakes of the US and Canadian Dietary Reference Intakes (for example 38 g a day for men and 25 g for women aged 19 to 50). Water goals are about 80% of the Adequate Intake for total water, because the rest usually comes from food.
  • Vitamins and minerals: the Recommended Dietary Allowances or Adequate Intakes for your age and sex (Dietary Reference Intakes), saturated fat under 10% of calories as in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, and the adult Tolerable Upper Intake Levels for supplements. They come from database foods, package labels and the supplements you log, never from an AI's guess.
  • Food and drink numbers: the USDA Food and Nutrient Database for Dietary Studies (FNDDS 2021–2023) from FoodData Central, and for packaged foods the label data from Open Food Facts and USDA's branded foods. In a meal scan, AI names the foods and portions, and the numbers come from USDA data wherever a food matches.
  • Sugar notes: shown for food or drink with at least 12 g of sugar making up half its calories or more. Juice raises blood sugar faster than whole fruit (Bolton et al., 1981), having carbs with or after a meal slows the rise (Shukla et al., 2015), and the WHO advises keeping free sugars under 10% of calories. The optional food-quality tag follows the NOVA classification of processing.
  • Weight trend and check-in: the trend is an exponentially smoothed average: each day it moves a tenth of the way toward your weigh-in, as in The Hacker's Diet. The weekly check-in estimates the energy you used from what you logged and how the trend moved over 2 to 4 weeks, and moves a target by 150 kcal a week at most, within the limits above.
  • Alcoholic drinks: grams of alcohol = volume × strength (ABV) × 0.789, the density of alcohol (PubChem); alcohol counts 7 kcal a gram; one US standard drink is 14 g of alcohol (NIAAA).
  • GLP-1 mode: the focus on protein, fiber and water follows the joint advisory on nutritional priorities to support GLP-1 therapy (Mozaffarian et al., 2025). Weight Class doesn't give dosing advice.
